Understand what's really going on down there. The Pinc Vaginal Microbiome Test is a simple at-home swab that maps 50+ markers across your vaginal microbiome — including 9 STIs, yeast and protective bacteria. Your results are then reviewed with a women's health doctor from Pinc Bloom, our telehealth clinic, so you're never left decoding a lab report on your own.

What's included — $300

  • At-home swab kit, sent in discreet packaging
  • Prepaid return to NutriPath, a NATA-accredited Australian pathology lab
  • Full microbiome report — results typically 5–7 business days after the lab receives your sample
  • Telehealth consultation with a Pinc Bloom doctor — bulk billed for Medicare-eligible patients
  • Personalised plan, approved by your doctor

What is the vaginal microbiome?

Your vagina is home to a community of bacteria and yeast. When it's in balance, protective Lactobacillus species usually lead the way, helping maintain a healthy, slightly acidic environment. When that balance shifts, you may notice changes in odour, discharge, irritation or recurring discomfort — or nothing at all.

A microbiome test looks beyond a single result to show the bigger picture of what's living there, giving you and your doctor more information to work with.

Who is it for?

  • You keep experiencing symptoms that come back
  • You want answers beyond a standard swab
  • You're planning a pregnancy, or navigating perimenopause or menopause
  • You want a clearer understanding of your vaginal health, with a doctor in your corner

What the test looks at

One swab, analysed by NutriPath (NATA accreditation no. 20770) using quantitative PCR — so many results are measured, not just positive or negative.

  • Vaginal balance — pH, bacterial vaginosis and aerobic vaginitis
  • 9 STIs — chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomonas, Mycoplasma genitalium, herpes simplex 1 and 2, syphilis, chancroid (Haemophilus ducreyi) and lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV)
  • Mycoplasma & Ureaplasma — Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma parvum and Ureaplasma urealyticum
  • Other viruses — cytomegalovirus (CMV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV)
  • BV-associated bacteria — including Gardnerella vaginalis, Atopobium vaginae, Megasphaera, Prevotella and Mobiluncus
  • Aerobic vaginitis bacteria — including E. coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus and Group B Strep (Streptococcus agalactiae)
  • Other vaginal pathogens — including Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas and Streptococcus pyogenes
  • Yeast — 7 Candida species, including C. albicans, C. glabrata and C. krusei
  • Beneficial bacteria — total Lactobacillus plus 7 species, including L. crispatus, L. gasseri, L. iners and L. jensenii

What's in your report

  • Your pH result against the healthy reference range
  • Clear STI results — detected / not detected for every infection tested
  • Measured levels of each bacteria and yeast, with reference ranges and anything high or low flagged
  • Your Lactobacillus levels — total and by species, so you can see how well-protected your microbiome is
  • Written interpretive comments from the lab explaining notable findings
  • A full NATA-accredited pathology report — yours to keep and share with any practitioner
  • Reviewed with a Pinc Bloom doctor, who explains what it means for you and builds your personalised plan

FAQs

Do I need a referral?
No. Order your kit online and we'll take care of the rest.

How long do results take?
Results are typically ready 5–7 business days after the lab receives your sample. We'll let you know as soon as they're in so you can book your doctor review.

Is the consultation really bulk billed?
Yes — your Pinc Bloom telehealth consultation is bulk billed for Medicare-eligible patients. The $300 covers your kit, lab analysis and report.

Is the swab uncomfortable?
Most people find it quick and easy — similar to inserting a tampon. Full instructions are included in your kit.

When should I take my sample?
Avoid swabbing during your period, and for 48 hours after sex, douching or using vaginal products. If you've recently taken antibiotics or antifungals, wait until you've finished the course. Your kit instructions include full timing guidance.

How is this different from a standard GP swab?
A standard swab usually checks for a few specific infections. This test measures 50+ markers — vaginal balance, 9 STIs, BV and aerobic vaginitis bacteria, 7 yeast species and 7 protective Lactobacillus species — all from one swab.

What happens if an STI is detected?
Your Pinc Bloom doctor will contact you to talk through your result, next steps and, where appropriate, treatment and partner notification. Some infections must be reported to public health authorities under Australian law — your doctor will explain what this means, and your information is handled confidentially.

Can the test diagnose an infection on its own?
No. Results should always be interpreted by a doctor alongside your symptoms and history — which is why every kit includes a review with a Pinc Bloom doctor.

This test is not a substitute for medical advice and is not intended to diagnose any condition on its own. Results are reviewed by an Australian registered medical practitioner via Pinc Bloom. Bulk billing applies to Medicare-eligible patients for eligible telehealth consultations. If you have severe symptoms, are pregnant, or are unwell, please seek medical care promptly.
